According to the National Pain Foundation, older adults are more prone to sprains and strains, and may be more common among the chronically ill as well. The basic treatment for these common injuries to muscles and tendons is called R.I.C.E. Therapy:
Rest: stop the activity immediately.
Ice: apply a Nexcare™ Cold Pack to reduce the size of blood vessels, thereby decreasing the bleeding, reducing swelling, and easing pain.
Compression: apply a compression bandage to the injured area to help reduce swelling.
Elevation: elevate the injured limb above the level of the heart to help drain excess fluid.
